Active Transportation Network Plan

The Town of Osoyoos has developed an Active Transportation Network Plan (ATNP) to help guide how people walk, roll, and cycle throughout the community.

The plan identifies a proposed network of active transportation routes, along with priorities and actions that will support safer, more accessible, and connected travel for people of all ages and abilities. It will serve as a guide for future planning, infrastructure improvements, and investment decisions.

By implementing the recommendations in the plan, the Town aims to:

  • Improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and other vulnerable road users.
  • Create a more connected and accessible transportation network.
  • Encourage more people to choose active transportation.
  • Support a healthier, more sustainable community.

The ATNP aligns with the Province of British Columbia's Move. Commute. Connect. strategy, which aims to double the percentage of trips made by active transportation by 2030.

Development of the plan was made possible through funding from the Province's Active Transportation Infrastructure Grant Program, awarded to the Town in 2021. The grant supports planning for projects such as multi-use pathways, protected cycling facilities, pedestrian safety improvements, lighting, wayfinding, and end-of-trip amenities.

The Town's long-term goal is to provide a safe, balanced, and integrated transportation system that supports all modes of travel, including walking, cycling, public transit, goods movement, and private vehicles, while making active transportation a practical and accessible choice for everyone.
