Dog Licenses
If your dog is over three months old and has lived in Osoyoos 30 days, your pup need to be licensed and wear the valid tag. In a case where your dog goes missing this allows Bylaw Enforcement to quickly and easily reunite you with your dog and in many cases saving your pet a trip to the pound.
A license is valid until December 31 of the year following in which it is issued and must be renewed every year (January - December).
For dogs residing outside of Town limits:
- RDOS Area "A" Rural (Osoyoos Area) and RDOS Area "C" (Oliver Area) can be purchased online or at the RDOS Office in Penticton.
Summer Pet Safety
Summer temperatures in Osoyoos are consistently above 30ºC with plenty of sunshine. While this is great weather for humans to enjoy the beach, the lake, or the vineyards, it can cause plenty of stress for your pets.
Pets In Hot Cars
In climates like Osoyoos, the inside of your car can reach extreme temperatures within minutes—even in the shade with the windows open! These temperatures can cause serious harm or even kill your pet. If you plan on leaving your pet unattended in your vehicle this summer, even for just a few minutes, please consider leaving him or her at home.
Symptoms and Treatment of Heatstroke
After a day in the sun, your pet may begin to show signs of heatstroke. For a full list of symptoms of heatstroke and emergency treatment techniques, please consult the BC SPCA's webpage on dogs in hot cars. For more health and safety tips for your pets, please visit the BC SPCA website.
