Noise Regulation

The Town’s noise regulations are in place to help maintain a peaceful and respectful community for residents and businesses. Residents must not create or allow noise that disturbs the quiet, comfort, or enjoyment of others nearby.

Examples of prohibited noise include:

  • Loud music, stereos, radios, or amplified sound that disturbs neighbours
  • Excessive noise from animals or birds
  • Fighting or other disturbances in public places
  • Motorized lawn and garden equipment operating before 8:00am or after 9:00pm
  • Construction, demolition, excavation, or similar work:
    • Monday to Saturday: only permitted between 7:00am and 8:00pm
    • Sunday: only permitted between 8:00am and 8:00pm

Certain activities are exempt from the noise regulations, including:

  • Emergency vehicles and emergency repair work
  • Snow removal and essential public works
  • Farm operations
  • Highway maintenance and Ministry of Transportation work
  • Lawful parades and public events approved by permit
  • Standard residential equipment such as air conditioners, pool pumps, and hot tubs operating normally and in good working condition
  • Normal operations in commercial and industrial areas where noise is typical for that activity and meets accepted standards
